Meet Lubega!

Lubega is an amazing child who has requested to be called "Kakumba" – after a famous radio personality in Uganda – and everyone has obeyed! Kakumba, also known as Lubega Badru, is four years old and the son of one of House of Hope's teachers. Kakumba and his mother live in a small house across the street from the House of Action Junior School.

Kakumba's father passed away and his mother must provide for him as well as a number of others living in the household. Her teaching position at the Action School has been a great help in providing permanent care to Kakumba and the other children she has taken in at home.

Kakumba is able to attend school almost every day and is a very bright student in the nursery class. He's also extremely social and loves to play. Although it's common to see him running around with his best friend Asha while he should be in class, Kakumba can almost always charm his way out of trouble with his sweet personality. He can amuse himself indefinitely with his favorite toy, barrel of monkeys (see photo below), and is always up for a game of catch.
